Why it matters who's stirring the pot.

Only a few months into her new job, Nancy wondered whether or not she should have said yes to the CEO position at Soup, Inc. Sales were declining, bankruptcy and takeover rumors were swirling, and employee morale had never been lower. The company had lost both flavor and heat; and nobody likes lukewarm soup. How was Nancy going to turn it around? Sometimes the answer you need is right in front of you. On a lunch break, Nancy steps into Grandma's Soup House, a little place she hadn't noticed before, and happens upon an unexpected source of inspiration. New from the best-selling author of The Energy Bus and Training Camp, Soup tells the "stirring" story of how Nancy discovers the key ingredients to revitalizing her company, her team, and herself.

A recipe for success for anyone in any position, Soup delivers the powerful message that the quality of your career, business, and team is determined by the quality of your relationships. People are hungry for positive change and a fresh sense of purpose and passion. If you are ready to stir the pot and lead by example, Soup is a fun and engaging story that supplies you with the tools you need to build a winning team-at work, school, or home.

SOUP A Recipe to Nourish Your Team and Culture (Audible Audio Edition) Jon Gordon LLC Gildan Media Books

You'll see this review for all the Jon Gordon books I read. I actually bought "Training Camp" first, because I wanted my daughter (competitive soccer player) to work on her mental game. I read it first to be sure it was appropriate for her age (15). Well, I loved it! I found many helpful things for me. I was getting in a rut at my job and after looking inside myself, it seemed as though I was always angry and frustrated. I reached a point where I decided to change my outlook on everything, and whatever happens externally, happens. After Training Camp, I read the entire Jon Gordon series. They are very easy reading, regardless of age level (teens and up). People might complain that his books are too basic, but if you don't need a PHD to understand something, why write it like you need one? Each book has very simple steps and/or lessons to move you in the right direction. They didn't all work for me, but they all changed my outlook. Great stuff!

SOUP A Recipe to Nourish Your Team and Culture (Audible Audio Edition) Jon Gordon LLC Gildan Media Books Reviews

I wanted something light that would get the message of the importance of team building and engagement at work without being too preachy and this was a perfect fit. I gave one to each of my employees, the executive team, and my colleagues at work. The feedback has all been positive and it gives us some common references when talking about team building. I recommend this to anyone who wants to introduce these concepts for the first time.
I read this book in one night. It really is that fast, that simple and that engaging. It not anything we don't already know, but perhaps have either forgotten, been to busy to be simple or just didn't know how to get from where you are to where you want to be. Success, either personal or business, really can be achieved if you stir your soup with intent and passion and love.
A short read that walks you through the fundamentals of using trust-based leadership to grow a business without feeling like a textbook. Every lesson is put into context, and organically instills the ideas as you read through.
I am now a fan of Jon Gordon. I plan to read all of the other books now =) I love how he tells fictional stories as a way to help you grow personally and to grown your business. I also love how the chapters are short because sometimes so is my attention span.
I absolutely adore this book. I loce the way it is written... almost in story form, which is brilliant because I'm learning so much while being engaged in the story and wondering what's going to happen/what I'm going to learn next. I look forward to all of his books following this one.
Out of the several books I have read on leadership related topics (Maxwell, Wooden, Pitino, Marshall Goldsmith, Carnegie...), this book is the one I remember the most, and the one that I understood on the first read.

Jon Gordon does an excellent job of breaking down the "How to Build a Culture of Greatness" in life and business, no matter where you are on the leadership ladder. It is simple and very easy to relate to.

The core of the book relies on comparing Culture to making Soup. The most important ingredient is the person stirring the pot. Though not a step by step guide on how to build/change your work culture, it is definitely a book that will give you an easy way to get yourself thinking about how influential you can be in creating a culture of excellence and success.

Give it a shot, it will only take you 8hrs to read.
SOUP A Recipe to Nourish Your Team and Culture, by Jon Gordon is written as an allegory. As with most business allegories, the story is a little corny and just a tad beyond the real world, but the message is fantastic.

I'll get the corny part out of the way first. Before anyone follows the example (that I am sure Mr. Gordon simplified for the reader's benefit) please note that if you go in and start eliminating un-engaged workers, you had better check the employment laws in your state or you will facing some serious issues with the EEOC and Soup Worker's Local Union. Also, before you do as suggested and start hugging your employees (and yes, I do hug my employees, both male and female) be mindful of the possibility of sexual harassment charges.

Now for the stuff that makes SOUP well worth reading. If you've read any of Jon Gordon's other books (and if you haven't, you should), you know his writing style is very easy to follow and he has a unique way of putting his points in front of the reader in a relatable fashion so that you can immediately implement his ideas. For example, I thought the "Winning Habits" manifesto presented in this book was such a tremendous idea that I stopped reading mid-page and starting typing one up for my team that I will introduce at next week's meeting.

I don't want to give away too much story here, but the book gives some great insight to building better, stronger relations with your team and some great ideas for inspiring, empowering and coaching your team. The end result will be a much more engaged group of workers.

There's no rocket surgery here. Most of this is what good leaders already know, but Jon Gordon has a very succinct way of reminding us what good leadership and team building is all about. I do recommend this book, as well as Gordon's other books. My personal favorite of his is still the No Complaining Rule, but I rate this one right up there with it.
